Poetry Test
The poetry test is tomorrow, 6 June 2007. Classes went over material they are to be tested on today in class.
The first page consists of matching. Know the definitions of the following poetry terms:

The second page has the poem “The Art of Drowning.” There is a word bank on the bottom of the page, which tells which poetic elements must be identified in the poem. These elements consist of the following:
- Run-on line
- Personification
- Paradox
- Metaphor
- Denotation
- Irony
- Symbol
- Stress
- Stanza
- Caesura
- Sarcasm
- Imagery
- Free Verse
- End-stopped line
- Blank Verse
The third page contains the Emily Dickinson poem that begins with the line “Because I could not stop for Death.” Students must analyze the poem, showing the form, meaning, musicality, and figurative language. While there are a wide variety of plausible responses, students must be able to support what they right with evidence from the poem.
The fourth page is a mystery and was not disclosed by the real Herr Stuck.
